What it is

Fatsia Japonica, commonly known as Aralia, is recognised for its large, hand-shaped leaves. Originally native to Japan, the plant is now cultivated in several regions worldwide. In recent years, sourcing has primarily shifted to Central America, with Costa Rica and Guatemala as key production countries.

Origin & process

Aralia is grown under shade cloth (also known as saran) to protect the leaves from direct sunlight and maintain colour quality. The plantations are renewed approximately every five years while the plants continue to mature. After harvesting, the foliage is washed, sorted and graded into lengths ranging from 20 to 80 cm.
